How much is final cut pro x

Should I edit on Final Cut Pro X using an external hard drive? This is a leftover piece of information from way way back when Final Cut Pro (No X) and Final Cut Express was out. I heard from an editor that you should edit your videos on an external hard drive because it was easier on the program (rendering, CPU load, etc, etc) to edit to footage on a drive different than the drive the program is installed on. I was curious if anyone had ever heard something similar to this, and more importantly if there is any benefit now to using Final Cut Pro X on your main hard drive (or SSD to be specific now, as this might have been an issue specific to old Hard Drives and with the advents of SSD, this is no longer an issue) and editing the final product on an external hard drive?Or is there simply no benefit whatsoever to using an external drive during editing at all and you only need them for storage purposes? Unless it’s an older spinning drive out, gods forbid, a Fusion drive, for a small project that won’t fill the system you can use the system drive without problem. The benefit of external drives is that they can be much bigger and be RAIDed. A large external SSD OS great to work with.

Hi everybody, I'm currently running an Air Early2015 with El Cap, and I want to install Final Cut Pro X, thing that seems impossible because it needs High Sierra (10.13.6). I'd prefer not to update my mac, since i only have 4gb of ram and 128ssd. For now I'm using FCPX 10.2.3; and it works pretty fine. Is there a way to buy this particular version of the software?
