Recently at work I've had two experiences where I've had to use a trick to get software to install on versions of Windows they weren't intended to be installed on. The software I've had problems installing is PhotoStory 3 for Windows XP. PhotoStory 3 is a great tool for putting together slideshows of pictures with music, titles, and nice transitions. It is also a much simpler tool to use than Windows Movie Maker, especially for young kids.The two experiences have to do with with trying to install PhotoStory 3 on Windows 2003 Server for a thin-client solution and trying to install the program on Windows 7. I would imagine this tip will work with any application using Microsoft Installer (*.msi) to install the program, though PhotoStory 3 is the only software I've installed using this trick. The problem is that, in some cases, Microsoft Installer will check to ensure the OS it is installing an application on is the OS the software was designed for.
